ground effects large scale sedans.

Postby jungle massive » Sun May 18, 2014 12:58 am

I would like to start a dialogue on ground effects and aerodynamics.
I have two large scale cars I will be experimenting with.
now I'm not talking BT46 fan cars or anything, more
along the lines of effective use of splitters, cowels, flat under carriages,
diffusers, wings and body arrangements
( ie Windows vents etc )

surely there are gains to be had in traction here.
any experience or ideas here would be appreciated.

I agree, I think there should be advantages from this. I talked to people who tested this, and they had problems with engine cooling when making a flat 'floor' on the car. However, I think this should be possible to solve using some air ducts (similar to new RS5 body) to supply fresh air to the engine.
Let us know how it goes!

I have a bmw alms body for the gasser and I am planning to recreate the rear brake out vents and open the rear just like the the actual race car. keeping the rear window in to see if that helps the rear wing effects is the main objective here.
the front bonnet on the 1:1 is an exit for the intercooler air through the front bumper. I am not sure if this would add front downforce.
I do intend on using these vents if at least only for cooling.
cooling on the evo will be the biggest challenge.

so those back vents I am Hoping will help with cooling.
And these are the fronts in question.
just thoughts and comparisons from actual lemans car to the lexan body...
thinking more cooling again with these and keeping the front grille solid..

and the back seems to lend itself to a rear "diffuser" style under carraige

so im going to see if using all the vents in this body, and cutting out the rear profiles AKA 1:1 scale will be sufficiant to keep the engine cool enough.
a big plus here will be if i can keep the rear window intact. my thinking here is more rear wing downforce, due to (any opinions here) less dirty air.
the rear has many outlets with this body type, and putting a flat piece of carbon here looks like it will actually help.
